Must Read

Nigerian star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, won her fourth BET Award at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday. Tems, a Grammy winner, triumphed over top stars like Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Maverick City Music, and others to win the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award with her 2023 song, “Me & U” at the 2024 ceremony.

The BET Awards, established in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, is an American award show that recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Black entertainers and other underrepresented groups in music, film, sports, and philanthropy. Tems has a remarkable history with the BET Awards. In 2022, she won the awards for Best International Act and Best Collaboration for Wizkid’s “Essence.” She also secured the Best Collaboration award for her song with Drake and Future, “Wait for U” in 2023. This song also received the same award at the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2022.

Another notable winner at the event was South African star Tyla, who won the awards for Best New Artist and Best International Act earlier in the night. Tyla’s acceptance of the Best International Act award was a memorable moment on July 1, 2024, at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
