Armed Robbers Follow, Shoot FRSC Official in Kogi State After Bank Transaction

Armed robbers attacked an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps named Abu on Friday as he returned home from a bank in the Zango area of Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State. Abu was robbed of an unknown amount of money after being shot at.

According to witnesses, the robbers followed Abu, who was riding a motorcycle, from the bank to Phase I Lokongoma near Lokongoma market. They stopped him and tried to snatch his money bag, shooting him three times in both legs and his shoulder during the struggle.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident, revealing that N139,000 was recovered from the crime scene. Abu was swiftly taken to the hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

“At 1.30 pm, officers responded to a distress call at Lokongoma, Phase I in Lokoja, where they found Abu, a road safety officer, severely injured after being shot in both legs and the shoulder,” stated William Aya, the state Police Public Relations Officer.

“He was returning from the bank when a Toyota Camry blocked him in front of Lokongoma Market, Phase 1 in Lokoja, and he was robbed of an unspecified sum of money,” Aya added.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, has deployed officers to secure the area and pursue the robbers to ensure justice is served.
