Stakeholders and key members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) are set to convene in Abuja at the end of this month to address crucial internal issues affecting the party. The announcement came in a statement released by the party’s National Secretary, Mr. Oginni Olaposi Sunday, on Sunday in Abuja. According to the statement, leaders and elders from all parts of the country are expected to participate.
The statement highlighted that the meeting would focus on “critical issues affecting the 23-year-old political party,” aiming to strengthen the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, and the entire national working committee led by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji. This gathering is deemed pivotal by the NNPP leadership for enhancing democracy and fostering party development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The commitment of all stakeholders and elders, both in terms of capacity and participation, will greatly contribute to the success of the meeting,” the statement emphasized.
“All members, especially those in sensitive leadership roles, are required to attend this upcoming meeting,” it continued, stressing the repercussions for members engaging in anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 elections if they choose to boycott.
It reiterated the expulsion of Kwankwaso, Galadima, and the former National Working Committee members led by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, as well as the suspension of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf until December.
In discussing the NNPP constitution’s supremacy over all members, the national secretary underscored, “The constitution stands above all, in accordance with the grundnorm of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Expressing hopes for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold internal democracy, the statement urged, “We trust INEC, under the leadership of Professor Mahmud Yakubu, to uphold the objectives of democracy for Nigeria’s growth and sustainability.”
Reflecting on Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s actions, the statement lamented, “It is regrettable that a former minister, two-time Governor of Kano State, federal senator, House of Representatives member, and 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, could bring such avoidable disgrace to Nigeria, especially Kano State.”
The statement condemned betrayal in politics, stating, “Betrayal of trust under the guise of politics is reprehensible.” It further suggested that divine intervention led to the timely exposure of Kwankwaso and Galadima’s true characters.
“If Kwankwaso had won the presidency in 2023, it would have been a betrayal of Nigerians’ trust,” the statement concluded, expressing gratitude for divine intervention in averting such a scenario.
