“Troops Neutralize 2,245 Terrorists, Detain 3,682 Suspects, and Rescue 1,993 Hostages in Second Quarter”

In the second quarter of 2024, Nigerian Armed Forces personnel successfully executed operations resulting in the elimination of 2,245 terrorists, the apprehension of 3,682 suspects, and the liberation of 1,993 kidnapped hostages. These accomplishments were detailed by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, during a bi-weekly media briefing in Abuja.

General Buba underscored that these operations, spanning diverse regions, markedly weakened the terrorists’ military capabilities. They underscore the military’s steadfast determination to dismantle terrorist strongholds and neutralize their operational capacities.

He highlighted the recovery of 2,783 weapons and 64,547 units of ammunition by the troops. Moreover, he emphasized the prevention of oil theft, safeguarding national assets valued at over N10 billion.

Operation HADIN KAI in the North East accounted for the neutralization of 857 terrorists, the arrest of 913 suspects, and the rescue of 594 hostages. Similarly, in the North Central, Operation SAFE HAVEN eliminated 130 terrorists, detained 544 suspects, and rescued 277 hostages. Operation WHIRL STROKE in the same zone neutralized 138 terrorists, arrested 377 suspects, and rescued 204 hostages.

In the North West, Operation HADARIN DAJI saw the neutralization of 764 terrorists, the capture of 673 suspects, and the rescue of 592 hostages. Concurrently, Operation WHIRL PUNCH neutralized 170 terrorists, apprehended 366 suspects, and rescued 178 hostages. Operation DELTA SAFE in the South-South region neutralized 14 terrorists and apprehended 455 suspects, thwarting attempts to sabotage oil and national facilities valued at over N10 billion.

Regarding the South East, General Buba reported that troops in Operation UDO KA neutralized 180 terrorists, arrested 354 suspects, and rescued 148 hostages, notably addressing separatist activities.

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and adhering to international laws governing armed conflict. The troops’ dedication remains unwavering as they continue to prioritize the security and well-being of the nation’s populace, even at personal risk.

The achievements of the Joint Task Force Operations in the second quarter of 2024 underscore the military’s operational efficiency and determination to eradicate terrorism in Nigeria, according to Enugu Reporters. The valor and sacrifices of the troops have significantly reduced the terrorists’ capabilities, with ongoing efforts aimed at further enhancing national security and fostering a safer environment for all Nigerians.
