Tackle Fake Journalism, NNPP Leader Urges New NUJ President

Must Read

A South West chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has called on Alhassan Yahaya, the newly elected President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), to take bold steps in addressing unprofessional practices in the media industry.

In a congratulatory message on Sunday, Ajadi commended Yahaya on his election during the NUJ’s 8th triennial national delegates’ conference held in Owerri. He urged the new NUJ leadership to prioritize tackling the growing presence of unqualified and fake journalists in the profession.

Ajadi highlighted the importance of ensuring that the NUJ maintains its constitutional responsibilities while upholding the patriotic vision of the founding fathers of journalism in Nigeria.

“You are stepping into this role at a critical time when journalism is facing infiltration by untrained and fake practitioners. I encourage you and your team to address these challenges and restore the integrity of the profession,” Ajadi said.

He further expressed confidence in Yahaya’s leadership, saying, “I expect your tenure to strengthen the commitment to journalism ethics. I wish you and your team success and hope your term will bring positive impact to the media industry.”
