The Legal Practitioners and Privileges Committee (LPPC) has selected 98 lawyers to be considered for the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) this year. Out of these, 87 are practicing lawyers and advocates, while 11 hail from the academic sector. This announcement was made in a statement by Hajo Sarki Bello, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC.
The statement also called for public input regarding the integrity, reputation, and competence of the applicants. It emphasized that any complaints must be accompanied by a sworn affidavit either before a Nigerian superior court or a Notary Public, and must be submitted in twenty copies.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” clarified the statement, “the publication of the shortlisted applicants’ names does not imply their success in the selection process.”
Among the notable applicants are Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani, former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL), and Idowu Benson. Prof. Adeyemi Oke represents one of the academic applicants.
The shortlisted applicants are divided into two categories: advocates and academics.
