The family of late Nick Imudia, former CEO of Konga, an e-commerce company, strongly disputes allegations that he took his own life.
On June 27, reports surfaced claiming Imudia had jumped from a building in Lagos.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos police command, informed journalists that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) had initiated an inquiry into Imudia’s death.
Hundeyin stated, “Imudia allegedly jumped. Investigation commenced at Homicide section SCID, Yaba.”
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by Anthony Imudia, the family expressed their dissatisfaction with the media’s portrayal of Nick Imudia’s death as a suicide.
“The family of Nick Imudia is unhappy with how the media has incorrectly characterized the reporting of Nick Imudia’s death as suicide,” the statement read.
“This sentiment is also shared by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police’s office, which has pledged to investigate Nick’s sudden death.
“Nick did not contact his brother in America to discuss his estate, nor did he call his daughter with any instructions.
“How did the news spread so quickly (less than three hours after his death) before his family knew about it? Medical staff were still trying to revive him at the hospital.”
The family clarified that until his passing, Nick Imudia served as the group CEO of D.light International, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, where he resided.
“He oversaw the company’s global operations from Nairobi,” the family noted.
“Nick was lively, and those who worked closely with him or met him in the hours leading up to his death were shocked by the media’s attribution of ‘suicide’ to his passing.
“He had recently visited Lagos following a brief trip to the Netherlands and was scheduled to return to Nairobi the day after his untimely demise.
“Nick belonged to a tightly-knit family that provided ample support, and he displayed no signs of stress or depression at any point.
“The insinuation of suicide, as hastily reported by the media, raises suspicions.”
The family appealed to the media and the public to respect their grieving process without spreading baseless rumors about the circumstances of Nick’s death.
