The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is deeply saddened by the passing of Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Youth and Sports. Adams, who had been battling illness, passed away yesterday morning, leaving a void in both political and football circles.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau praised Adams’s commitment and leadership. He described Adams as “the leader of a very important committee in the House of Representatives and a man who was very much alive to his duties, tasks, assignments, obligations and responsibilities.”
Having dedicated his life to football, Adams made significant contributions to the sport’s development within Nigeria. His roles included General Manager positions at Kada Stars Football Club in Kaduna and Remo Stars Football Club in Ikenne. His journey culminated in his chairmanship of the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, underscoring his passion for advancing football in the country.
Gusau reflected on Adams’s impactful legacy: “The late Hon. Adams surely left his bold and indelible footprints in the sands of time, and departed with a legacy of distinguished service to the football industry and to the country’s legislative chambers.”
Despite the grief, Gusau urged a celebration of Adams’s life: “Rather than be thrown into dejection and sorrow, we must endeavor to celebrate Hon. Adams’ fruitful and fulfilled existence here on planet Earth.”
In a gesture of respect, Gusau personally visited the late Hon. Adams’s family to offer condolences. During his visit, he met with Adams’s mother and wife, offering support and solidarity during this difficult time.
Adams’s passing marks a significant loss to both the political and football communities in Nigeria. His contributions and leadership will be remembered fondly, as he leaves behind a legacy of dedication and service that enriched both realms.
