Salman Garba Dogo, the newly appointed Police Commissioner of Kano State, unequivocally denied allegations linking him as a blood relative to the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, during a recent press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters. Dogo, speaking with determination, refuted the claims and underscored his commitment to impartially serving all residents of the state.
“I am first and foremost a Nigerian, and I am here to serve Nigerians. The news of me belonging to the same family as Bayero is new to me; this is the first time I am hearing it. For me, I will do my best for Kano,” Dogo stated, emphasizing his dedication to implementing effective security measures across the state.
Speculation regarding Commissioner Dogo’s alleged familial ties to Emir Bayero had surfaced online following his recent assignment to Kano earlier in the week. Dogo acknowledged the challenges confronting Kano, particularly the resurgence of thuggery activities, during the briefing.
“I have already obtained briefs from my predecessor as well as the Command’s Department Heads on the security situation of the state. I promise to support, guide, and empower officers of the command so that we collectively work together, combat crimes, maintain law and order, and ensure that peace and stability prevail in the state,” Dogo assured the public, reiterating his commitment to prioritizing the security of life and property within the bounds of the law.
Commissioner Dogo outlined his strategic policing approach, emphasizing community engagement, collaboration with other security agencies, leveraging technology, and upholding professionalism and accountability as core principles.
He stressed the necessity of shared responsibility in addressing security concerns and pledged to cultivate robust partnerships with both the government and the citizenry to foster trust and enhance safety throughout Kano.
“I assumed duty at a time when the state is a talk of the day and is confronted with significant security challenges, including the resurgence of thuggery (Daba) activities in some parts of Kano Metropolis. We have already developed an action plan that revolves around collaborative policing after carefully studying the trend of the crime pattern,” Dogo elaborated on his operational strategy.
Acknowledging the contributions of his predecessor, AIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel, Commissioner Dogo expressed gratitude and affirmed his commitment to building upon the foundation laid in enhancing the state’s security.
He appealed to the public for support in the collective efforts to maintain peace and stability in Kano, underscoring the pivotal role of community cooperation in achieving this goal.
