Nigerian international music sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made a generous donation of 150 million Naira to Christ Embassy Church in Benin City, Edo State.

According to reports, the Edo-born artist was in Benin for the Edo@33 celebrations. During his visit, he performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the new 6,000-capacity Edo Dome and headlined a musical concert at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, all at the invitation of the state government.

Rema’s donation to the Edo Regional Headquarters of Christ Embassy Church, located on Erediauwa Street off Ekenwa Road, was made in gratitude for the church’s support during a challenging time in his childhood. While attending a thanksgiving service at the church, Rema shared his story of how the church helped his family after the loss of his father when he was just eight years old.

He expressed, “I am not here to give myself any form of accolades or glory but to give to God the glory. And I felt it was important to give back to the church that has embraced me, prayed for me, and kept me very consistent with my spirit.”

Reflecting on his childhood, he added, “When I was eight years old, after I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us, and we felt alone. I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas of this church; they opened a shop for my mum, and that shop is what she used to take care of us.”

In appreciation of the church’s support, Rema announced his donation of 150 million Naira.  “Firstly, I want to give a pledge of 40 million Naira towards the infrastructural development of the church, 20 million Naira to the Rhapsody of Realities publication, and since I came from the teens church, I also pledge 25 million Naira to the church. Additionally, I am pledging 20 million Naira to assist all the widows in attendance.”
