The Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State has approved a request by the family of the late singer Mohbad to proceed with a second autopsy. Mohbad, a popular 27-year-old singer, passed away in controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest the next day. Dissatisfied with the inconclusive findings of the initial autopsy, conducted by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) after his exhumation on September 21, 2023, the family sought further investigation into the cause of his death.
In response to public outcry and the family’s concerns, the court hearing on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, saw the Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court granting permission for a second autopsy. This decision follows the family’s rejection of the first autopsy’s results for failing to determine the exact cause of Mohbad’s untimely demise. They urged the presiding magistrate overseeing the coroner’s inquest to ensure that an independent toxicology report accompanies the subsequent autopsy findings before submission to the authorities.
“The Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State has granted the family of the late singer Mohbad permission to conduct a second autopsy,” reports confirmed, emphasizing the family’s determination to seek clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death.
