Residents of Jakande Housing Estate in Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State are urgently calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and prevent further tragedies caused by persistent flooding in their community.
According to reports from DAILY POST, a recent fatality underscored the severity of the situation. Mr. Shakiru tragically lost his life while attempting to clear blocked gutters following a recent flood.
The residents are deeply concerned about the escalating impact of flooding as the rainy season reaches its peak. They note that flooding is a recurring problem during this time of year, but this season’s occurrences have exceeded their expectations.
Alhaja Fausat Olawale, a resident, voiced the community’s plea for assistance, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention to avert further loss of life.
“We are unable to rest peacefully when it rains at night. We implore our respected governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to come to our aid and protect us from imminent danger.”
Another resident, Taofeek Ibrahim, expressed sorrow over the recent loss of a community member and appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government to implement effective solutions to address the perennial flooding issue.
“Every year, we endure these challenges, but this year’s situation is beyond our ability to manage. It is only June, and we have already lost one of our own while trying to clear the drains. What will happen to us when July arrives and the rainy season intensifies?”
“We urgently appeal to the Governor of Lagos State and the chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government to protect us from premature deaths and the destruction of our properties,” Ibrahim pleaded.
The residents of Jakande Housing Estate are hopeful that their calls for help will prompt swift action from the authorities to mitigate the dangers posed by the ongoing flooding crisis.
