The 2024 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination (JAMB) brings relief to prospective Nigerian university students, marking the start of the yearly admission process. Scheduled for Thursday and chaired by Minister of Education Tahir Mamman, the meeting is crucial for setting minimum admission scores and guidelines.
JAMB, in its latest bulletin on Monday, confirmed the meeting’s agenda. It highlighted a new addition to this year’s proceedings: the National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M Awards). The top achiever stands to win N500 million, with N250 million shared among other deserving candidates.
“The policy meeting gathers key figures including vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and other stakeholders,” JAMB emphasized. “It will assess the 2023 admissions and the 2024 UTME performance, crucial for determining the minimum admission scores. These scores, not to be mistaken for cut-off marks, establish a baseline that no institution can fall below.”
Decisions made at the meeting, led by the Minister of Education, collectively guide the admission process. “Institutions must await these guidelines before starting admissions,” JAMB clarified. “This ensures uniformity and adherence to national standards. Institutions disregarding these norms will face penalties.”
