The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted bail to three Lagos State House of Assembly staff members accused of assaulting Department of State Services (DSS) officers during a confrontation on February 17, 2025.
The defendants— Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola—were granted bail with a condition of 3 million Naira each and required to provide a Level 16 civil servant as surety.
The accused face charges including obstructing DSS officers from performing their duties at the Lagos Assembly and spreading false information online to incite unrest. They are also accused of using mobile devices to dis-seminate misleading content intended to disrupt public order.
The background to the confrontation lies in the ongoing political struggle at the Assembly, where former Speaker Muda-shiru Obasa was recently removed and replaced by his deputy, Mojisola Me-randa. Obasa, however, has refused to accept the change, declaring it unconstitutional and challenging it in court. The trial is set to commence on March 24, 2025.
