Crackdown on Bandits in Delta by Security Agencies, States Bureau Chief

Must Read

Within the last year of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, the Delta State Government, in collaboration with the State Command of the Nigerian Police and other security agencies, has achieved significant progress in enhancing security. This effort has resulted in the removal of a considerable number of criminal elements from Asaba, the state capital, and other parts of the state.

Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, shared this information during a radio interview on Tuesday. He emphasized that the government will continue to provide necessary support to the police and other security agencies to further enhance their operational capabilities.

He noted that the operations of local vigilantes and hunters within their communities have been activated across the 25 local government areas of the state. These local security measures effectively complement the efforts of conventional security operatives, providing a safer environment for farmers and travelers. Dr. Oghenesivbe assured the public that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to prioritizing safety and security in Delta State.

Dr. Oghenesivbe also mentioned that Delta State is not listed, and will not be listed, as one of the red zones for banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria. He acknowledged a few reported cases of security breaches in some communities and occasionally along the East West Road, but maintained that Delta State remains one of the safest states for investment in Nigeria.

He appealed to members of opposition political parties and their proxies on social media to stop raising false alarms about nonexistent security breaches. These false alarms often allege rapid kidnappings in some communities and along the East West Road without providing the identities of the supposed victims.

“Delta State is very safe for investments. The state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, is committed to consistently protect life and property in line with his constitutional mandate.

“The state government has performed creditably well in providing logistics support and equipment to boost the operations of security agencies in the state, and will do more to secure Delta.

“At the moment, our local bushes and forests are being searched discreetly, and government is deploying result-oriented strategies in this regard. Gradually and systematically, criminal elements and bandits shall be flushed out, Delta will be too hot for them to thrive.

“Delta State is a choice destination for Nigerians from across the country because of her economic potentials. We are hospitable people, however, the state government will not accommodate unrepentant criminal elements.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will continue to do the needful to partner with security agencies, local vigilantes, and traditional hunters to patrol our forests, roads, and identified red spots from time to time,” Oghenesivbe assured.

These efforts reflect the administration’s dedication to creating a safe and secure environment for residents and investors alike. The integration of local vigilantes and hunters into the security framework enhances the effectiveness of conventional security measures, ensuring comprehensive coverage across all local government areas.

Furthermore, the state’s strategic approach to security, which includes discreet searches of local bushes and forests, showcases the government’s commitment to proactive and preventive measures. By making the state inhospitable for criminal elements, Delta is gradually building a reputation as a secure destination for business and investment.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains steadfast in its mission to protect life and property, providing unwavering support to security agencies. This commitment ensures that Delta State continues to thrive as a safe, welcoming, and economically vibrant region in Nigeria.
