The Lagos Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, explained that heavy rainfall and high tidal levels in the lagoon caused flooding around Olopo Meji inward 3rd Mainland. He shared this information on X.com on Wednesday. Wahab assured everyone that the flooding would be temporary and expected to subside within 1-2 hours. He emphasized that as the tidal level in the lagoon decreases, the rainwater will flow out into the lagoon, reducing the flooding.
According to a statement, “The flooding at Olopo Meji inward 3rd Mainland is a result of intense and prolonged rainfall combined with a high tidal level in the lagoon. Rest assured, it will dissipate in about 1-2 hours. As the tidal level in the lagoon goes down, the rainwater will drain into the lagoon.”
In a further update, Wahab disclosed that a team from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources (EFAG) had been dispatched to manage and clear the flash flood. He posted, “The EFAG team from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources #LasgMOE was sent to monitor and clear the flash flood at the Olopomeji section of Iyana Oworo. The road is now clear of rainwater. We appreciate your patience and understanding.”
