Abia Gov receives three rescued kids, cautions parents

Must Read

On May 10, 2024, the tranquil community of Ama Ime in the Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State was jolted by the abduction of three children, Gideon, Divine, and Israel, all from the same family. Their parents, alongside the entire community, were thrown into a state of anguish and despair. However, hope was restored when the children were successfully rescued in operations coordinated by the Abia State government, spanning across Anambra and Delta states. The culmination of these efforts was marked by an emotional reception hosted by Governor Alex Otti at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA.

The atmosphere at the governor’s residence was a mix of relief and gratitude. Families, friends, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the safe return of the children. Governor Otti, in his address, expressed profound gratitude to God and commended the security agencies for their diligent and courageous efforts in securing the children’s release. He underscored the importance of vigilance, urging parents and guardians to be more mindful of their children’s whereabouts to prevent such incidents in the future.

Governor Otti emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens. He made it clear that those involved in the heinous act of kidnapping would face the full wrath of the law. “I charge all security operatives who played a part in this rescue mission to ensure that every single individual involved in this abduction is prosecuted and brought to justice,” Otti stated firmly. “This will serve as a deterrent to others who might be contemplating such criminal activities.”

The governor also pledged the government’s support for the rescued children, ensuring they receive all necessary assistance to recover from their traumatic experience. This pledge extends beyond immediate care, aiming to provide long-term support to help them reintegrate into their community and continue their education without hindrance.

Highlighting the broader context of his administration’s security strategy, Otti elaborated on his frequent interactions with the heads and personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. These visits, he explained, are integral to maintaining a robust security framework across Abia State, which is essential for fostering a conducive environment for economic activities. He reaffirmed his stance against criminality, delivering a stern warning to those who disrupt the peace and security of the state. “I have sent a clear message to criminals: this state cannot accommodate both them and us. One party must leave, and it will not be us, as we have the mandate of the people and the backing of divine providence,” Otti declared. “It is the evildoers who must flee, even before they are pursued, and that is exactly what we are witnessing.”

The rescue operation, as detailed by the Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Osinachi Nwaka, was a complex and risky endeavor executed in three distinct stages. Nwaka recounted his personal involvement, describing the perilous first phase of the mission in Ekwulobia, Anambra State. His account highlighted the bravery and dedication of all those involved in the operation, underscoring the collaborative effort required to bring the children back safely.

In closing, Governor Otti’s message was one of resilience and steadfastness. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of all Abia State residents. The successful rescue of Gideon, Divine, and Israel stands as a testament to the effectiveness of coordinated security efforts and the power of communal support in overcoming adversity. As the community of Ama Ime rejoices in the children’s safe return, the state government remains vigilant, determined to prevent such tragedies and to uphold the safety and security of its people.
