President Bola Tinubu strongly condemned the suicide bomb attacks in Borno State on Saturday, characterizing them as desperate acts of terror. The attacks, which occurred in Gwoza, resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 15 people, with numerous others sustaining injuries.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu expressed heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims and the Borno State Government. He emphasized that these attacks highlight the terrorists’ desperation in the face of mounting pressure and the significant strides made in degrading their ability to launch large-scale offensives.
President Tinubu asserted, “The purveyors of wanton violence shall face justice, and these cowardly attacks are isolated incidents. My government will steadfastly prevent our nation from descending into an era of fear, sorrow, and bloodshed.”
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding citizens, pledging intensified efforts to eradicate those who threaten the nation’s peace, claiming innocent lives, and disrupting law and order.
Meanwhile, the United States Government also condemned the attacks, denouncing them as horrific. In a statement issued on Sunday by its Mission in Nigeria, the United States reiterated its dedication to partnering with the Nigerian government to combat terrorism and ensure that the perpetrators face justice.
“The United States unequivocally condemns the heinous attacks in Gwoza, Borno State on June 29. These despicable acts of violence demonstrate a callous disregard for human life. Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the deceased, and we wish a swift recovery to the injured. These appalling attacks underscore the persistent threat posed by terrorism in the region,” the statement emphasized.
The international community’s condemnation underscores the gravity of the situation and the collective resolve to combat terrorism and uphold peace and security in the region.
