The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, has taken decisive action to suspend special promotions within the police force, citing concerns that such practices are undermining the integrity and fairness of the promotion process for officers. In a stern announcement, the IGP expressed his displeasure with the increasing trend of officers lobbying for special promotions, emphasizing that this practice jeopardizes the professionalism and morale within the police ranks.
IGP Egbetokun firmly stated that moving forward, any recommendations for special promotions from external influences will be met with disciplinary measures. He emphasized that decisions regarding special promotions will be strictly managed by the police leadership to ensure transparency and meritocracy in career advancements.
Furthermore, the Inspector General issued a ban on the inappropriate solicitation of postings within the force, cautioning that individuals caught engaging in such behavior will face disciplinary actions in accordance with the established regulations of the police force.
In a related development, amidst these policy changes, IGP Egbetokun recently presided over a ceremony to decorate 27 senior police officers who had been promoted to higher ranks. This ceremony underscored the dedication and achievements of these officers in their respective careers within the Nigerian Police Force.
Among those honored were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Yayaha Abubakar, a distinguished lawyer from Adamawa State who had previously served as AIG for Zone 14 before his elevation. Also recognized were 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 15 Commissioners of Police, each of whom had demonstrated exceptional leadership and service.
The newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General included Mohammad Badeh, originally from Niger State, who had served commendably as the Commissioner of Police overseeing Safer Highway initiatives. Ahmed Armani, from Katsina State and possessing a master’s degree in law enforcement, brought valuable experience from his tenure at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Additionally promoted was Mohammed Hussain, a native of Jigawa State, who had previously served as the Commissioner of Police for Kano State.
The ceremony not only recognized their individual accomplishments but also highlighted the police force’s commitment to rewarding merit and excellence in service.
